Introduction to Consumer Trends in Alcohol Purchases

Saucey is a leading alcohol and nicotine delivery app that operates in major cities across the country. We took a closer look at some alcohol buying habits across 12 of Saucey's top growing cities, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Orange County, Orlando, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and South Bay LA.

We broke down the favorite category to buy from (i.e., vodka, white wine, tequila) and which product was most popular over the past 6 months.

Regional Alcohol Preferences and Top Picks

Here’s what we found: Vodka in Florida; Beer Everywhere Else. In all of our city breakdowns, we found that the category of beer, cider, and hard seltzers was the most popular in all cities outside of Florida. Both Miami and Orlando preferred vodka, which may speak to the more “going out” culture in an area like Miami–vodka shots anyone?

Top Products in Different Cities. The different top products spread a more robust image of each city we broke down. Products like Tito’s and Don Julio appeared as overall favorites and appeared as top products in multiple cities.

Despite white wine and champagne appearing more midway through the category rankings, they found their way onto the top product lists with Bogle and Veuve Clicquot.

And while whiskey did not capture much of the top part of the category rankings either, Sacramento had Bulleit as its most purchased product.

Conclusion: We thought it was interesting to see vodka be so popular in Florida. Saucey began in the Los Angeles and San Francisco area, with longtime retailers that had robust beer selections, so it made sense that those categories would rank so popular. However, they started in Florida with a more equal selection of products, and the ranking may speak to that area’s drinking culture & preferences.

As far as products, it’s interesting to see how Tito’s and Don Julio take the top spots in multiple areas here while other cities have more unique favorites to them.
